NB boys hockey update

The North Branch boys hockey team traveled and fell to the Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson Mustangs 6-0 Feb. 14, before hosting and losing to the Irondale Knights 4-0 Feb. 16.

The team then hosted and lost 4-1 to the Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks in its last regular season game Feb. 17. Brandon Kratzke, with assists by Joey Courtright and Mitch Patten, scored the only Viking goal.

The team ended the regular season seventh in the Two Rivers Conference with a 3-10-1 conference and 4-20-1 overall record. The #10 seeded Vikings faced the #7 seed Legacy Christian Academy Lions (11-10 record) in the first round of the Section 5A Championships at Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine Feb. 21. The winner of that game will advance to compete in the quarterfinals against the #2 seeded Rogers Royals (17-6-1 record) at Rogers Ice Arena at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, with the winner advancing to the semifinals at the home of the high seed at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25.

The Section 5A Championship game will take place at Heritage Center in Duluth at 7 p.m. Friday, March 2.
