After traveling and falling 67-43 to Mora last week, the Rush City girls basketball team played on “Pink Out the Gym” night when Braham came to town.
The Tigers lost to the #3 state ranked Bombers 63-50 last Thursday, but were winners with the junior varsity and C team in raising $500 for cancer research. The girls “Pinked Out the Gym” quite literally with most spectators at the game donning pink T-shirts.
Rush City started out the game strong and led part way through the first half. But Braham fought back and took a seven point lead into the locker room. The Tigers came out slow to start the second half giving the Bombers the chance to lead by as much as 19 points. Even though the Tigers picked up their play they could not overcome the deficit and ended up losing by 13 points.
“This was one of the better competitive games Rush City has played against Braham in recent memory,” said Coach Mark Henrich. “I am very proud of how the girls played as a team.”
The Tigers then hosted and downed the East Central Eagles 71-31 last Friday.
The Rush City girls basketball team is third in the Great River Conference with a 10-4 conference and 13-7 overall record. The Tigers will host the Onamia Panthers (4-13 record) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 before beginning Section 7AA Championship playoffs at the home of the high seed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29.
