RC girls hush Gobblers but not Bombers to end season
By Victoria Dahlin —
After defeating Aitkin in the Section 7AA first round playoffs, the Rush City girls basketball team ended its season by falling to #3 state-ranked Braham in the quarterfinals.
The #4 south seeded Tigers hosted the #5 seed Gobblers last Thursday, a day later than scheduled due to the snowstorm. Rush City took control in the beginning to manage a 28-10 half-time lead. After the break, Aitkin put together a strong push to come within 11 points, but the Tigers maintained their lead to earn a 56-34 victory.
On Saturday, Rush City traveled to University of Minnesota Duluth to face the #1 section seed Braham in the section quarterfinals and gave up a big start to the Bombers early in the first half. Down 18 at the half, the Tigers attempted a come back but could not stop the Bombers who took home a 82-50 win.
“The coaching staff along with the players would like to thank the parents, student body and fans for your support throughout the season,” said Coach Mark Henrich. “Without your support we could not have finished as well as we did this season. I am very proud of what the girls were able to accomplish this season, individually and as a team.”
The Rush City girls basketball team ended the 2011-12 season third in the Great River Conference with a 11-5 conference and a 15-9 overall record.
