The North Branch C Squirts are enjoying a memorable hockey season after taking first place in their district. With the District 10 Tournaments starting the weekend of Feb. 18, the team beat Irondale and Pine City to advance to the semifinals the following weekend. The boys went on to defeat St. Francis on Feb. 25 and then Princeton in the finals to be crowned district champions — a feat not experienced by a North Branch team in years. Players sported purple jerseys and purple socks in support of pancreatic cancer awareness and assistant coach Steve Lee who is battling the disease. Steve and the Lee family were also on hand to cheer the North Branch C Squirts to victory. “All your hard work and passion for the game has paid off,” head coach Mike Fabini told the boys in the locker room following the big game.
