The Vikings girls golf team finally got to swing into the 2012 season, a day after their first event, the Pine City Scramble, was postponed due to wind, cold, rain and snow.

The North Branch girls golf team scored 231 to take seventh place out of nine teams, ahead of Fridley (242) and Chisago Lakes Area (247) yet behind Benilde-St. Margaret’s (186), St. Louis Park (187), Irondale (188), St. Francis (197), Spring Lake Park (200) and Totino-Grace (206) at the 9-hole conference meet on April 17 hosted by the Vikings.

Lauren Ibinger and Emily Lawrence each scored 57. Janice Elkerton carded 58, Hannah Gomes 59, Emily Carlson 61 and Sarah Harris 64.

“The whole conference is very young this year, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the three teams at the top are the oldest,” said Coach Dave Ambers. “Our golfers played OK for the first time out. But with the exception of junior Emily Lawrence, they each had one or two big holes that drove their scores higher than we expected. More experience should help.”
