Great dog grooming in a central location

Is your golden retriever looking like Goldilocks? Maybe your Russian wolfhound is starting to resemble Rapunzel.

Owners who don’t want their dogs to look like longhaired fairytale characters now have a place in North Branch to come get them groomed.

Central Bark, located directly north of – you guessed it – Central Park in North Branch, just opened about a month ago.

Owner Andrea Johnson has nearly a decade of experience grooming everything from great danes to chihuahuas, and she’s hoping to make a home for the business in the community.

People from North Branch and surrounding areas have been bringing their dogs into Central Bark for haircuts, nail trimmings and teeth cleanings in the short time the business has been open.

“Business has been pretty steady,” Johnson said.

A Lifelong love of animals

Johnson said she’s had an affinity for animals about as long as she can remember, especially dogs and cats, so being in a profession where she can work with dogs almost every day is the perfect fit.

“Right out of college I wanted to find a full-time job I didn’t mind working at, and I knew I wanted to work with animals,” she said. “I found this opportunity and I’m glad that I did.”

She noted she can work with any type of dog, even ones that will not stay still for their owners.

“I use a lot of treats and a lot of patience,” she said. “You just take it dog by dog and learn their individual personalities so you can adapt to the dog and figure out what’s the best approach.”

Hours of operation

Central Bark is currently open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Grooming sessions are made by appointment. Johnson said she hopes to hire a groomer this summer to work with her so customers can bring their dogs in on Sundays.

Johnson noted a seven-day-a-week grooming operation is right up her alley.

“There’s nothing I’d rather do than hang around dogs all day,” she said.

Central Bark can be reached at 651-277-2275.
