Foster grandparenting is a truly rewarding experience for both our older citizens and the children of this community. Right now, North Branch Area Public Schools is looking for volunteers for the 2012-13 school year.
To become a foster grandparent in our elementary school, one need only contact Senior Corp’s Ron Urbanski at (651) 310-9445. Senior Corp is a proud partner with Sunrise River Schools.
In order to be a foster grandparent, you must be at least 55 years of age and willing to serve for 15 hours or more per week. The rewards for volunteering are many.
Foremost, you will make a difference in the lives of children, working one on one with students in need of academic assistance and helping them achieve success.
You will provide a positive role model for a child and help develop healthy attitudes and develop personal strengths and skills. Most importantly, no experience is required to serve as a foster grandparent.
In exchange for your service, you will receive a tax-free stipend that will not affect your income-based benefits. You will also receive travel reimbursement, on-going training, and accident and liability insurance while you are in the program.
If you would like to learn more, go to our home page (www.northbranch.k12.mn.us) and look for the announcement in the lower-right hand corner of the main page. There you can download a flier that will tell you more and watch a video that will further explain the powerful affect this program has on its participants, both older and younger.
I hope you will consider becoming a part of this very valuable program. We are in need of volunteers for next year and your participation will be cherished not just next year, but for years to come by the students whose lives you will impact.
