NB boys tennis loses in close match

The North Branch boys tennis team lost 4-3 to Robbinsdale Cooper May 7.

Vikings winning their matches were #2 singles Carl Fisk (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) and #3 singles Cole Lee (6-0, 6-4) as well as #2 doubles Eric Chilstrom and Tim Courtright (6-4, 6-2).

“This was a very close match,” said Coach Chad Brusky. “Unfortunately we were unable to pull of another point in singles or doubles. Great wins were won by Carl Fisk in a tough three setter, Cole Lee in a dominating two set effort. Number two doubles earned another win on the year playing with a great sense of pride and fun.”

On May 5 the team competed in an invitational at Andover High where the team scoring was based on only completed matches with one point for each win.

North Branch earned one point, while Fairmont had two, Anoka eight, Hibbing nine, Chisago Lakes nine, Andover nine, Blaine 11 and Eagan totaled 15 to win.

The North Branch boys tennis team has a 1-12 overall record. The Vikings will travel to Cambridge-Isanti High School to face the Bluejackets at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 17. The boys will begin the subsection team playoffs at the home of the high seed at 4 p.m. Monday, May 21, with the winner advancing to the home of the high seed at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 22.
