Tiger golfers medal, making progress
By Victoria Dahlin—
The Tiger golf teams competed in two meets last week with Dylan Fessenden and Tayler Schellbach medaling in both meets.
The Rush City boys team lost 188-198 to Aitkin on May 7 at Cuyuna Golf Course, but individuals did well.
Fessenden carded a 41 to earn the first place prize, while Nick Schmidt scored 47, Matt Strenke 54, Conner Bergman 56, Alex Enns 61 and Sam Gilbert 63.
The Tiger girls team was incomplete while the Gobblers team scored 256.
Schellbach came in first with a 56, while Brea LeMon finished with 63 and Sara Johnson 64.
“I was really pleased with our scoring up at Cuyuna,” said Coach Jeremy Albright. “Some of the boys shot their best round of the year. The girls played the tougher of the nines, and they shot well considering the course.”
Last Thursday the teams hosted Braham at Bulrush, with the boys falling 189-213 to the Bombers.
Fessenden tied for first with a 46, while Strenke finished with 52, Bergman 54, Schmidt 61, Enns 66 and Gilbert 68.
The Tiger girls team was incomplete, and the Bombers team totaled 237.
Again finishing first Schellbach carded 46, while LeMon came in with a 53 and Johnson 70.
“This was our final tune-up before our final 18 hole GRC tournament,” said Coach Albright. “Overall we’re seeing improvement with our golfers. Some of the kids are still working out the kinks in their swings. A couple of the kids struggled off of the tee box on Thursday, so we’ll correct that at practice.”
The Rush City boys and girls golf teams will host the Hinckley-Finlayson Jaguars at Bulrush Golf Course at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, May 17.
