Missing stars at graves dishonor those who gave their lives

To the Editor:

As I am out putting flags on our veterans’ graves, I find that the stars are missing at many area cemeteries. This letter is to let you know that the American Legion and Auxiliary do know, but it will take some time to replace the stars, if we can.

I’m sorry that some people have no respect for the veterans and dishonor the ones that have given them their freedom as they take one of the last gifts veterans get from the state.

Roberta Elmstrand

NB Legion Auxiliary  president

Editor’s note: President Elmstrand said it costs $34 each to replace the stars. There are some

300 graves to cover.

The Legion Flag holder is also missing from my husbands grave in Linwood Cemetery in Stacy (Linwood Township}, I checked and there are no other ones leeft there except the real old ones for the WWI or older grave sites. To whom should this loss be reported? Isn’t it a SHAME, whoever is melting these down and paying the theives is also guilty. I will purchase another from or through the Legion he was a member but I know many families cannot or do not know they have been stolen.
