The regular season ended well for the young Rush City boys and girls golf teams with golfers Dylan Fessenden and Taylor Schellbach named to the Great River Conference (GRC) All-Conference Teams.
The boys carded a 392 to finish sixth out of eight teams on May 14 in the GRC Championship Meet at Fiddlestix Golf Course. The girls team was incomplete.
Fessenden (freshman) came in with an 89, Nick Schmidt (sophomore) 92, Matt Strenke (senior) 95, Conner Bergman (senior) 116, Sam Gilbert (eighth grade) 119 and Alex Enns (junior) 121.
Schellbach (senior) ended with a 91, while Sara Johnson (freshman) and Brea LeMon (eighth grade) both carded 118.
“Overall I thought most of our golfers had a pretty decent day,” said Coach Jeremy Albright. “This was our first real 18 hole meet, which is such a difference for high school golfers compared to nine hole meets when they are playing by themselves. Taylor Schellbach missed out on being the top golfer in the conference for the year by one half of a point. I am so proud of her and how she has performed. Congratulations to Taylor and Dylan.”
The Rush City boys team will compete in the first round of 4A Sections at 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 29 at Victory Links Golf Course in Blaine, with those qualifying continuing onto the next round Thursday, May 31. The Tiger girls will compete in the first round of sections at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 30 at Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka, with those qualifying continuing onto the next round Friday, June 1.
