Senior golfer Lauren Ibinger earned All-Conference Honorable Mention while the team placed seventh in the North Suburban Conference (NSC) Tournament at TPC Twin Cities Golf Course, May 21.
The Viking team scored 431 to place ahead of Chisago Lakes 478 and Fridley 487; and behind Irondale 356, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 363, Spring Lake Park 383, St. Francis 384, St. Louis Park 391 and Totino-Grace 408.
Freshman Janice Elkerton continued her late-season surge by leading her team with a 98 (47/51), while Ibinger carded a 100 (50/50).
Junior Emily Lawrence and sophomore Hannah Gomes completed the Viking scoring with matching 118s and sophomore Sarah Harris was right behind with 120.
North Branch ended the season seventh in the NSC ahead of Fridley and Chisago Lakes Area and behind Irondale, Benilde-St. Margaret’s, St. Francis, Spring Lake Park, St. Louis Park and Totino-Grace.
“The whole conference, boys and girls, enjoyed a near perfect day on one of the area’s best courses for 18 holes,” said Coach Dave Ambers. “The TPC is a beautiful place for the NSC finale. The course was in great shape and the girls had the opportunity to experience it all, including numerous opportunities to play from the water and sand. She’s (Elkerton) really made a quantum leap in the last month. Next year, she could be a real force in the conference.
“Lauren finished her NSC career in a fashion that secured her second straight All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition. She’s been our best golfer for the last two years and we’ll really miss her. Emily has been very steady all season and I’m sure she’ll be a real contributor next year. Sarah and Hannah have been up and down all year. They can both hit the ball a long way and have the potential to make big strides, especially if they golf regularly after our season is over,” Ambers explained.
If the North Branch team or any individuals qualify in the section preliminaries at Grand National Golf Course in Hinckley May 28, they will compete in the Section 7AAA Championship on Thursday, May 31.
