RC road project moving forward

By Victoria Dahlin—

The Rush City Council on June 11 learned progress continues to be made on the 4th Street turnback project. Upcoming work includes:

Curb and gutter is scheduled to start on 4th Street from Irving Avenue to Fairfield Avenue on Thursday, June 14.

Sidewalk is being installed between Field Avenue and Irving Avenue, and then to the high school.

Bituminous paving on 4th Street from Irving Avenue to Fairfield Avenue is scheduled for Monday, June 25.

Work is anticipated soon on the Dana Avenue parking lot.

A new railroad track crossing is not expected to start until the week of June 25. New railroad signal poles are not expected until July 10.

In other news, the council:

• Decided a landowner’s issue with a water drainage problem — caused by a neighbor raising their backyard  in the area of 8th Street and Fairfield Avenue — was a private property matter that neighbors will have to work out. City Administrator Amy Mell said she would contact the resident and suggest they contact Chisago County Soil and Conservation for information and remedy alternatives.

• Discussed the draft of an updated city liquor ordinance in regulating the possession, sale and consumption of intoxicating and 3.2 percent malt liquor. A required public hearing on the matter is set for the Monday, Aug. 13 council meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

• Approved this year’s primary election positions including Dorothy Siljendahl, head judge and ballot counter judge; Bernie Lou Winter, ballot judge; Diana Granlund, demonstration judge; Jodie Hochstatter, general election only; Jean Hoffman, registration; Sharon Miller, roster judge; and Debra Johnson, roster judge.
