North Branch wrestlers Brandt Bombard, Zack Johnson, Sam Sonneck, Austin Sonneck, Alex Bigley, Ashton Labelle and Tristan Labelle attended an Augsburg College wrestling camp where they received training from some of the most elite college wrestlers and coaches in the country.

Bombard and A. LaBelle both placed first in their respective weight brackets, while T. Labelle earned a consolation trophy.

Brandt went 18-0 for the week, and A. Labelle lost one match that he redeemed later in the week.

Brandt, as well as Bigley, won the prestigious Auggie Award given to those wrestlers who exhibit a very hard work ethic throughout the week-long camp.

“These kids used the proceeds from our spring NBWA (North Branch Wrestling Association) fertilizer and water softener salt sales to pay their own way into this summer camp,” said Coach Darryl Senne. “These camps run $225 per week, so it is great to see these young people learning the benefits of working for the things you want. I could not be more proud than I am today; this makes being a volunteer coach and NBWA member worth all the effort.

“The future of wrestling in North Branch looks very promising. I would also like to thank Scott Sonnek, Lisa Sonnek, Mandi Bombard and Cory Bombard for organizing and spending considerable time last week at the wrestling camp,” Senne added.
