Lou Malchow

Lou Malchow of Rush City; building inspector for Chisago County, died very unexpectedly Friday evening July 13, 2012 in Rush City at the age of 61 years.

Lou was born in Minneapolis on April 26, 1951 to Sigmund and Irene Malchow.  He grew up in north Minneapolis in the Camden area until age 11 when he moved to Columbia Heights, Minn.  He graduated in 1969 from Columbia Heights High School.

He worked at the Holiday Village store in the automotive department and Designware in Fridley.  Designware fabricated store fixtures which Lou sold over the road.  Being an over-the-road salesman was difficult and took too much time away from his marriage so Lou took a position with the John Hancock Life Insurance Company.

The last 27 years, Lou has worked for the Chisago County Zoning Department.

Lou was married to Pam Falk in Columbia Heights in 1971.  Their first home was in Coon Rapids, and they moved to the Rush City area to start their family of two boys Nic and Nate.

He lived on Rush Lake until his sudden death from heart disease.

Lou is survived by his wife Pam, sons Nick Malchow and Brenda Olson of Rush City, Nate and Sarah Malchow of North Branch, grandchildren Brooke Olson, Coltin, Krista and Jessica Malchow.

Lou is also survived by his sister Mary Malchow of Rush City and many friends.

A time of visitation and reviewal was held Tuesday evening from 3-7 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Chapel.

Following the visitation time, a toast to Lou’s Life was celebrated at the Rush City VFW.
