Stacy moves closer to playing ball

Stacy City Engineer Chuck Schwartz delivered some exciting news to the Stacy council last week. He presented a letter notifying the city that it has been awarded a 2012 Minnesota Twin’s Fields for Kids matching grant of $8,300.
The Twins sent along a grant contract advising that the city will have one year to complete its project – an upgrade to the city’s west side ball fields – and that the city must submit regular progress reports to the Twins Community Fund.
The city had to complete the grant agreement and contract by Friday, July 13.
The council expressed gratitude to the Twins and everyone involved. They hurriedly made plans to move the project forward.
Schwartz said he has contacted the Brakemeier family, owners of the Sunrise Estates Mobile Home Park, to proceed on an agreement for an easement for the city to begin making the improvements.
The Brakemeiers have been helpful and cooperative in working with the city on property and livability issues since purchase of the park took place in May.
The city hopes that improvements to the ball fields will result in Stacy resident Troy Nelson’s vision of a state softball tournament coming to fruition within the next two years.
Work will begin immediately over on the west side. A dedication of the fields is set for Stacy Daze in 2013.
