Multiple authorities responded to Central Park on Thursday, Aug. 16 when a passerby on North Branch Main Street reported seeing people in possible possession of a firearm under the park’s gazebo.
According to North Branch Police Chief Dan Meyer, a police officer responded to the park around 2 p.m. and was eventually joined by fellow officers, Chisago County sheriff’s deputies and a unit with the State Patrol due to the nature of the report.
The officers located about a dozen people at the site, along with a couple of BB guns and an Airsoft pistol during their investigation, Meyer said. Airsoft guns, designed to be non-lethal, are air powered ballistic projectors that replicate real firearms that fire plastic pellets through compressed gas or air.
Also in their investigation, authorities arrested and booked two 17-year-olds from North Branch for 5th degree possession of controlled substances, specifically prescription drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Another juvenile, 16, from Lindstrom, was cited for drug paraphernalia and released at the scene, noted Meyer.
