Gertrude Dorothea (Gertie) Ellsworth, Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend, Age 81.
She was born January 22, 1931, died August 17, 2012.
She was born in Salmunster, Germany.
To friends and family she told stories about her childhood in post World War II Germany and the hardships she and her family endured.
In her youth she worked as a seamstress, and is known by many for her sewing, quilt making and needle work.
In 1958 she met the love of her life, Fay, while he was stationed in Germany during service to his country.
She moved to Minnesota, and was married to Fay in February of 1960.
She retired in 1998 after working 27 years at the Review Corporation in North Branch.
She was active in the Legion Auxiliary, and enjoyed participating in Legion functions.
Her fun loving wit, generosity, authentic smile, and slight accent will be deeply missed.
Gertie was preceded in death by her husband Fay, sisters Maria and Anna, brothers Rudolf, Freddy and Otto. She is survived her brothers Erich and Josef; sons Robert (Sherry) of Raymondville, Mo., and Eric (Jodi) of Sunrise; grandchildren Nick, Shannon, Daniel, Trudee, and Samantha.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Fairview Lakes Medical in Wyoming for the wonderful care Gertie received during her final days.
A memorial service is planned for Gertie on Wednesday, August 22, at 11 a.m. at the Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch.
