Blue Star Mothers day change

Since the first Monday of September is Labor Day, the MN Blue Star Mothers Chapter 16 will meet Monday, Sept. 10 at the Pine City VFW at 6:3 p.m.

Audubon meeting and trip plans

Duluth birding expert, Eric Brunke, will speak on “Raptor Identification” at the Wild River Audubon Chapter meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 11.  The meeting is 7-9 p.m. at the Chisago Lakes Area Library at 11754 302nd Street in Chisago City.  During the meeting they will also finalize carpool arrangements for a field trip on Saturday, Sept. 15 to Hawk Ridge in Duluth.  Both events are free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

NB Chamber lunch set for Sept. 11

The September North Branch Area Chamber Luncheon will be Tuesday, Sept. 11, noon to 1 p.m. at the North Branch American Legion, 6439 Elm Street. Speaker will be Mike Buchite on Employee Benefits Packages. Featured business is Recycled Wardrobes. The lunch will be catered bu Joe’s on Main Street. Almelund Seniors

Almelund Seniors will meet at the Amador Town Hall on Friday, Sept. 14 for a potluck dinner at noon. There will be music and cards for all to enjoy in the afternoon. Everyone is welcome.

Almelund Apple Festival set for Sept. 16

The 19th annual Almelund Apple Festival is set for Sunday, Sept. 16, 11 a.m.– 4 p.m. at the Amador School House Heritage Center and Swedish Immigrant Log Farm in Almelund. Fundraiser for Habitat Sept. 16

A fundraiser to benefit Habitat for Humanity will be held on Sunday, Sept. 16 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rush City from 7-11 a.m.  All you-can-eat pancakes, eggs and sausage will be served, as well as juice, milk and coffee.  Freewill donation. Breakfast is hosted by Thrivent Builds and sponsored by the Chisago County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. First Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 1000 So. Jay Ave in Rush City.

Norwegian trio performs at NB senior center

Geitungen, a trio of award winning folk musicians from Norway will give a concert at the Chisago County Senior Center in North Branch Wednesday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. We R Able, a program for adults with disabilities, sponsors this concert.  Donations are cheerfully accepted, and refreshments follow the concert.

RC Lions, fire department to hold gun raffle

Rush City Lions and Fire Department is holding a Gun Raffle and Spaghetti Banquet 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Chucker’s Bowl in Rush City. Raffle tickets are being sold by Lions members and by members of the fire Department – need not be present to win. Wide variety of firearms including rifles, shotguns, handguns, youth models and a bow will be raffled.  A cash option for each firearm is available.  Tickets will be sold up to the time of the drawing. Franconia Sculpture Park celebration

Franconia Sculpture Park hosts its 16th Annual Art and Artists Celebration Saturday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

This all-day event serves as the gala opening for the new 2012 sculptures, offering a full day’s entertainment headlined this year by the foot-stomping, infectious music of 4ontheFloor. Artists will be on hand to conduct a Hot Metal Pour; families can enjoy roving stilt-walkers, a live amphibian program, face-painting, spin art, and performances all day. The event is free – parking is $5 per car, $10 after 6 pm. Franconia Sculpture Park is accessible to all, with gravel and mowed grass paths throughout the park. N. Chisago Historical Society

North Chisago Historical Society will meet Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Rushseba Town Hall. Gwen Swenson of North Branch will give a presentation on the history of 4-H, with emphasis on Chisago County involvement. She has been a 4-H volunteer for 35 years. The November meeting will be on the 6th, at 7 p.m. at the North Branch Library. Guest speaker will be Marilyn McGriff.

American Legion Auxiliary meeting

The first meeting of the year for the North Branch American Legion Auxiliary Post 85 is Sept. 11, 7:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall. The Auxiliary’s 2013 budget will be set at this meeting. Changes by the national branch of the Auxiliary have been made recently, so this would be a good meeting to attend to learn about those changes.
