The Chisago County Pheasants Forever Chapter will hold its 14th annual Youth Hunt on Saturday, Sept. 29. The popular event will again be held at Rocky Bay Kennel and Hunt Club near Pine City.
The Hunt Club is located at 57875 Lily Avenue, Pine City. To get there, take Highway 70 east off I-35. Go east about 5 miles, then turn North or left on Keystone, go one mile to the stop sign (580th St.), turn right and go about one mile to the club house.
Registration begins promptly at 8 a.m, with the events starting at 8:30. Please be on time, cautions Jon Olson, event chairman, because there is a lot to accomplish.
To qualify, each youth must have a Minnesota Firearms Gun Safety Certificate and be between 12 and 15 years old, or close to 12 and have a gun safety certificate. The event is for both both boys and girls.
There is a $20 registration fee, and for that each participant will receive a Youth Pheasants Forever Membership, a round of sporting clays target shooting and a guided 2-bird pheasant hunt with a guide and trained pointing dog to find the birds, plus lunch.
Please bring your own 12 gauge or 20 gauge shotgun. Shells are provided. Please bring ear and eye protection if you have them. They also will be available on site. A blaze orange hat and/or vest will be required. “Let us know if you need a shotgun, and we will insure one is available for you,” Olson said.
Space is limited, so register in advance with Jon M. Olson at 651-248-5051, or on-line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
“It’s always an exciting event for kids,” Olson noted, “and it’s also a great bargain because our Pheasants Forever Chapter picks up the lion’s share of the expense.”
