The North Branch volleyball team recently played a killer pair of matches.
The team beat both its conference opponents in the two games played last week.
First up, the team traveled to St. Francis and defeated the Fighting Saints 3-1 (18-25, 22-25, 26-24, 23-25).
“This was a huge win for the Vikings on the road,” Coach Haley Lang said. “We had just taken a loss to the Saints on Saturday in our home tournament, and really felt we played well, but had more to give. Monday’s practice was spent on a lot of prep for Tuesday, and the players and I decided to go with a secondary line-up. The kids were amazing; they really laid everything out on the court, and risked everything for the win. Taylor Spence came up huge on the outside, which is a position she had not been playing prior. Katy Trunk also stepped in the beginning of the fourth set to give us a boost after Jessica Merchant went down with an ankle injury. Merchant will be out for a few games, but we are looking toward the next few matches with renewed energy after the win against St. Francis.”
The Vikings then traveled to Robbinsdale Cooper and defeated the Hawks 3-0 (25-14, 25-11, 25-7).
The North Branch volleyball team is 3-1 in the North Suburban Conference and 7-5 overall. The Vikings will travel to Fridley to face the Tigers (5-12) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27 before competing in a tournament at Duluth East High School beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
