Carolyn Wanda White passed away at her home in rural Stacy on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012 at the age of 75.
She was born Nov. 8, 1936 to Ernest and Wanda (Onasch) Anderson of Stacy, Minn. She grew up in Stacy and graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Melvin White on Sept. 25, 1954 and they made their home in Stacy, where they raised six boys. Carolyn was employed at Hazelden for 40 years, 30 years full-time and 10 years at an on-call status. She started as a housekeeper in 1972; while working full time as a housekeeper, she completed classes to fulfill her dream of becoming a family counselor in the Family Program.
In 1979, she joined the Family Program as a family counselor assistant, and in 1980 became employed full-time as a family counselor with the Hazelden Family Program. She loved her job and was very proud of her accomplishment, and she found the work very rewarding. Carolyn enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, and always seemed to be on the winning team.
She also loved fishing with her husband, Mel, but if you would ask Carolyn the best times were those spent with family. She loved all her family and was so proud of “her boys”! She enjoyed having all her boys and their families together whenever she was able, whether it was spending time at her home, the lake, or one of the many vacations that she took everyone on. She was fortunate to have taken many trips with her children and grandchildren to warm, tropical places. She also made sure that there was plenty of food and treats for the grandkids when they came to visit, and she spent many hours cooking and baking for them. She was best known for her sour cream cookies and banana bread.
Those who knew Carolyn knew that she wasn’t afraid to “tell it like it was” and that she would tell you exactly what she thought, whether you wanted to hear it or not. That is also what made her the person she was and what everyone loved most about her.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; son Donald, and an infant brother.
She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Mel; five sons and six daughter-in-laws: Bob (Deloris) of Lindstrom; Ron (Bev), of North Branch; Randy (Roxanne), of Mora; John (Dawn), of North Branch; Ed (Anne), of Amery, Wis.; and Donna White, of North Branch; and also good family friend to us all for over 40 years, Clark Kubat. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; brother, Ron (Bobbie) Anderson, of International Falls; sisters, Geraldine (Al) Ohlgren, of Menahga; and Nancy (David) Oberg, of Center City; as well as many other relatives and numerous friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 1, 2012 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 31075 Genesis Ave., Stacy, Minn.
