The team season ended for the #8 seeded North Branch girls tennis team in the Section 7AA Championship quarterfinals at Elk River Monday, Oct. 8 when the team lost 7-0 to the #1 seed Elks. The 7Aa Subsections will be held at St. Francis High School or if bad weather threatens at the tennis bubble at Spring Lake Park beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. In singles North Branch #13 seeded Becca Trunk will face #4 Chisago Lakes seed, #14 seed Gabrielle Ruddy face #3 Princeton and #16 seed Alexis Ferguson will face #1 Andover seed. In doubles #15 seeded Cydney Bettendorf and Janice Elkerton face #2 Forest Lake, while #16 seed Christina Gamer and AlexAnn Koecher face #1 Andover seed. Any individual winning there match will continue onto play in the 7AA Girls Tennis Individual Section Championshis which continue to take place Monday, Oct. 15 and Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Updates for earlier in the season
On Thursday, Oct. 4 the girls tennis team traveled to Big Lake and lost 5-2 Hornets. First doubles Cydney Bettendorf and Janice Elkerton won 7-5, 7-6 (8-6). Second doubles AlexAnn Koecher and Christina Gamer won 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
On Tuesday, Oct. 2 the team hosted and defeated Columbia Heights 6-1. Gabrielle Ruddy and Britta Anderson at first and fourth single respectively both won 6-0, 6-0. Second singles Alexis Ferguson won 6-1, 6-3. First doubles Cydney Bettendorf and Janice Elkerton won 6-2, 6-4. Second doubles AlexAnn Koecher and Christina Gamer won 6-4, 6-3. Third doubles Lizzie Anderson and Kaitlyn Johnson won 6-1, 6-7 (4-7) 6-4.
On Thursday, Sept. 27 the Vikings hosted and lost to St. Louis Park 2-5 Sept. 27. Cydney Bettendorf and Janice Elkertonwon their first set in a tie breaker 7-6 (7-5) and then won 6-4 in the second set. Christina Gamer and AlexAnn Koecher won 6-0, 6-0 at second doubles.
On Tuesday, Sept. 25 the team hosted and was defeated by Irondale 2-5. Gabrielle Ruddy won her match at 1s 6-4, 6-1; Alexis Ferguson won at two singles 7-6 9 (11-9), 6-2.
