The North Branch girls soccer team earned a victory over Zimmerman in the first round of Section 7A Championship play, but the girls fell in the quarterfinal versus Esko/Carlton to end its season.

The No. 6 seeded Vikings hosted and silenced the No. 11 seed Thunder 4-1 in the first round of the sections last Thursday.

Freshman Emma Pignato scored two goals, while senior midfielder Alex Madsen and senior forward Jamie Salo shot in one goal each.

Senior forward Bayley Ertl made two assists, and junior forward Kora Amunrud along with senior midfielder Mackenzie Brehm each were good for one.

Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Rupp stopped eight of the nine shots on the Vikings goal.

Ertl took 12 shots on the Zimmerman goal, which earned her being named a Four Star Performer of the week by Minnesota Sports Online for the second time this season.

Last Saturday the team traveled and lost 2-1 to the No. 3 seeded Eskomos in the section quarterfinals, which ended the Vikings’ season.

The North Branch girls soccer team finished its season in sixth place in the North Suburban Conference with a 4-5-1 conference and 8-6-2 overall record.
