After a tough loss to Maranatha Christian earlier in the week, the Rush City volleyball team ended its regular season with a victory over Ogilvie.

The Tigers fell to the Mustangs 3-1 (14-25, 19-25, 26-24, 19-25) on the road Oct. 15, though the girls served 94 percent as a team. Alecia Meier slammed down 12 kills, while Summer Garr scored seven kills and two ace serves. Abby Scherer recorded 20 digs, and Sierra Shrunk set up 12 assists.

“Tough loss tonight,” said coach Eric Telander. “We really needed this win for momentum and seeding reasons. It didn’t happen. The girls did not play to their potential at all. We have some work to do, and we have time to get back on track for the playoffs.”

The regular season ended on a high note when the team hosted Ogilvie Oct. 16 and won 3-1 (24-26, 26-24, 25-10, 25-10), while serving 96 percent as a team. Mackenzie Sherrill had eight kills and four ace serves; Garr had 10 kills and three ace serves; Scherer racked up 20 digs; and Shrunk made eight set assists.

Abby Scherer recorded 20 digs in each game played last week.

“Once again we started out slow and continually were trying to come from behind,” said Telander. “For some reason in the third and fourth sets we turned it around. We still have things to work on, still have room for improvement. I would also like to say thanks and congratulations to all of our seniors for the years of dedication and hard work. We will miss you.”
