Eugene Lind

Eugene “Pete” Lind was born Dec. 11, 1931 to Rueben and Mildred (Swanson) Lind in Fish Lake Township, Chisago County, Minn.. He grew up in this area and was baptized Nov. 3, 1932 and confirmed June 24, 1945 at Fish Lake Lutheran Church at Stark. Pete attended the Reed District 33 School and graduated from Rush City High School in 1949. That same year, Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Missouri and U.S.S. Salem. Pete was on the U.S.S. Missouri when it went aground and was then transferred to the Salem, where he worked as a fire control technician.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1953, Pete worked at several companies, including Donovan Inc., P.O. Pederson Inc., E. F. Hals and Minneapolis Moline, usually driving truck.

Dec. 29, 1956 Pete and Janice Waxberg were married at the Calvary Lutheran Church of Rush Point. They would start a family of four children; Steve, Leah, JoEllen and Mike Lind.

In 1964, Pete started a 34-year career with United Sprinkler Company, with his first shop being in the old creamery building in Rush City. With shops in St. Paul and the industrial park in Rush City, Pete was involved in installing fire protection systems and trucking throughout the United States and Canada. In 1998, Pete sold his ownership in United Sprinkler and retired, allowing him more time to polka, watch westerns on T.V., play cards and cut wood. He especially enjoyed the outdoors and fishing and camping trips to Peterson Lake with family. Pete died early Thursday morning, Oct. 18, 2012, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 80 years.

Pete is survived by his wife Jan, children: Steve (Tracy) Lind of Sandstone, Leah (Geno) Cesena of San Diego, CA, JoEllen Heath (Brian Keacher) of Rush City, Mike Lind of Carlton; grandchildren: Corey (Shelly) Lind, Brandon Lind, Barb Heath (Cam Hartman), Matthew Heath, Geno Cesena Jr; great grandchildren: Chance Lind, Luke Chapman; brothers: Don (Donna) Lind of Rush City, Arthur Lind of Shoreview; brothers-in-law: Curtis Olson of Rush Point, Jim (Elaine) Waxberg of rural Braham.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents Rueben & Mildred (Swanson) Lind, granddaughter Bobbi Jo, sisters Clarice Olson and Helen (Chuck) Zemek.

Reverend Keith Kolzow officiated funeral services for Pete Lind at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rush Point. A time of visitation and reviewal was held at the church one hour prior to the service. Music was provided by Jon Ekstrom and Shirley Olson. Interment was in the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery next to the church. Casket bearers included: Corey Lind, Matthew Heath, John Serbesku, Terry Lind, Greg Lind, and Tom Lind.  Military honors were provided by the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post # 6692, Minnesota National Guard and the Minnesota Patriot Guard.

Memorials are preferred to the Calvary Lutheran Church or the Grothe-Jacobson VFW Post # 6692.

Funeral arrangements for Pete Lind are entrusted to the Funeral and Cremation Service – Olson Chapel, Rush City, Minnesota.
