Journey ends for RC after crushing Lions

After crushing Ogilvie in the first game of section play, the Rush City volleyball team fell to McGregor in the Section 5A east quarterfinal.

Last Thursday the No. 3 east section seeded Tigers destroyed the No. 6 seed Lions 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-8), while serving 95 percent as a team.

Senior Mackenzie Sherrill had four kills, one ace serve and eight digs, while freshman Summer Garr had nine kills, two ace serves and three digs.

Seniors Abby Scherer got 13 digs and an ace serve, while Sierra Shrunk set up nine assists and scored four ace serves.

“We did a nice job tonight of communicating and moving,” said coach Eric Telander. “It’s nice to see things coming together at the right time.”

The season ended for the Rush City volleyball team when the girls lost on the road to No. 2 seed McGregor 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 25-19) in the Section 5A east quarterfinal last Friday.

The Tigers finished the 2012 season in fourth place in the Great River Conference with a 8-4 conference and 13-12 overall record. More about the season ending section game at McGregor will be in the next edition of the Post Review.
