In the Spotlight: Wild Mountain
By the North Branch Area Chamber of Commerce—
It may be early November, but the skiers and snowboarders are already enjoying winter at Wild Mountain. The Taylors Falls ski resort was the first in the nation to open this year. The ski resort is just the tip of the iceberg for this multi-faceted organization. Wild Mountain/Taylors Falls Recreation owns and operates the Wild Chutes Snow Tubing, Alpine Slide, Go Cart and Waterslides, the Taylors Falls Scenic Boat Ride, Wildwood R.V. Park and Campground and the Taylors Falls Canoe and Kayak Rental based on the Minnesota side of Interstate Park. In addition, the business also has a banquet facility that can seat up to 350 people, and a full catering operation.
Wild Mountain is celebrating its 40th season this year. Dennis and Cam Raedeke purchased the former Val Croix Ski Area in 1972. Siblings Dan Raedeke and Amy Frischmon now run the family operation. One of the larger employers in Chisago County, the company has 25 full-time employees, 100 part-time seasonal employees plus 100 ski instructors and 100 patrollers. Many part-time workers are local high school and college age youth.
Helping non-profit organizations and their fundraising efforts is just one of the ways Wild Mountain gives back to the community. Each year over $50,000 is donated. The company buys wines and all bakery items, and even pottery from local area businesses and artists. Swenson, Wild Mountain’s Event Coordinator, also refers her clients to local DJs, photographers and cake decorators.
Wild Mountain/Taylors Falls Recreation continually shows its strong commitment to our local community while being a regional draw for tourism to our area. For more information visit their website at www.wildmountain.com or call 651-465-6365.
