(UPDATE) Authorities attempt rescue on local lake; man survives
UPDATE (Nov. 15): North Memorial in Robbinsdale confirmed today that Andrew Walter Simonette, 26, of Lindstrom, has been discharged from the medical center.
Nov. 14: Multiple authorities on Tuesday afternoon responded to rescue a 26-year-old Lindstrom man from the cold waters of North Lindstrom Lake where his kayak capsized.
The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, in its report by press release, identified the man as Andrew Walter Simonette who was transported to Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming where he was then airlifted to North Memorial in Robbinsdale. He was not wearing a life jacket, and neither he nor authorities know how long he had been in the water.
Simonette reportedly experienced hypothermia. His condition is unknown at this time.
The sheriff’ office said it received a 9-1-1 call around 2:30 p.m. indicating there was an overturned kayak near the middle of the lake in Chisago Lakes Township. A person also was observed holding onto the boat in the water.
By the time Lindstrom Fire arrived by air boat at the kayak, the sheriff’s office noted, other citizens were holding Simonette out of the water. It was then that he was transported by Lakes Region EMS to Fairview Lakes and then North Memorial Medical Center by North Air Care.
The Lakes Area Police Department also responded in the rescue. The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
