Dr. Charlie Reznikoff will speak on the topic of marijuana and conflicting information regarding its use at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in the Performing Arts Center at Chisago Lakes High School in Lindstrom.
Reznikoff is a general medicine physician at Hennepin County Medical Center and an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota. Described as a presenter “who brings together the latest research on marijuana in a way that is credible, understandable, clear and practical,” he will guide the audience through the conflicting messages surrounding the medical and recreational use of marijuana.
According to a study published in the Oct. 17 StarTribune, 27 percent of teenagers nationwide said they used marijuana within the past month — a 42 percent increase from 2008.
In Chisago County, 2 percent of sixth graders, 12 percent of ninth graders and 17 percent of high school seniors reported marjuana use in the past month, the 2010 Minnesota Student Survey indicated.
The program is sponsored by the Chisago County Tobacco and Marijuana Education Team under the umbrella of the Community Partnership with Youth and Families. All ages are encouraged to attend.
