It’s time to know what is happening

To the editor

A frack sand plant is planned to begin phase one operations, possible permitted hours 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with trucks running six to seven days a week, 12 hours per day.

There are plans for phase two that will involve a larger operation with more operational days and hours.

Harris will be immediately impacted, bombarded with trucks and trains. But when the sand is imported from the south, it will be North Branch’s problem, too.

They say it will employ 12-20 people, but is this a fair tradeoff for the plunging home values, air quality issues from silica dust in the air (plant employees will wear safety masks), excessive noise and destroyed roadways?

Everyone is invited to a public meeting, 6:30 p.m., Dec. 4 at the North Branch Library. This is your first and maybe last chance to learn what is happening in your community and voice your concerns.

This notice is brought to you by the Harris Citizens Action Committee.
