ECE members give to charitable causes

The emergency needs of residents in East Central Energy’s service area were the focus of several recent grants from the electric co-op’s Operation Round Up Trust.

A walk-in freezer for an expanding local food shelf, an infrared camera and radios for emergency crews, and funds for a food distribution program were among the $35,876 in grants distributed when the independent ORU Trust Board met recently.

ECE established the ORU Trust in 1997 as a convenient, low-cost way for members to donate to local charitable organizations. Members who participate agree to have their monthly electric bill rounded up to the next dollar. The Trust Board, made up of ECE member volunteers, administers the Trust, meeting quarterly to review grant requests and disburse funds.

A local organization receiving grants in the fall cycle is the Rush City High School Cribbage Club; $600 was donated to help start a cribbage program for high school students.
