The North Branch Area Public Schools school board held a special meeting Nov. 29 to canvass the results of last week’s recount between school board candidates Tim MacMillan and Aaron Gibbons. The result of that recount was a tie.

To break the tie, each candidate was provided a new, sealed deck of playing cards. Candidates were asked to choose a card from their own shuffled deck, with the highest card determining the winner. MacMillan drew a queen, while Gibbons drew a seven, making Tim MacMillan the elected candidate.

MacMillan will take his seat, along with candidate-elect Linda Heidelberger, in January.
