The North Branch City Council Monday approved the city’s 2013 operating budget and property-tax levy via a 3-2 vote.
Mayor Amy Oehlers and council members Joel McPherson and Kathy Blomquist approved the budget and levy.
Council members Ron Lindquist and Theresa Furman cast dissenting votes.
The overall levy, which is a combination of general fund, debt and economic development authority levies, is about $4.1 million, a 1.6 percent increase from the 2012 levy.
The levy is about $12,000 less than the 2010 levy.
Support for Tiller Corporation
Also during the meeting, the council unanimously approved a letter of support for Tiller Corporation, the sand fracking plant near completion between North Branch and Harris on County Road 30.
Lindquist, who attended a meeting hosted by Tiller and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency at North Branch Area Library Dec. 4, said he understands there is some concern from residents about the plant, but the facility should start operating soon.
“I think we have to get behind these people so we get that thing up there,” he said. “We need all the industry we can get. I think this letter could help.”
