A local school board member has garnered some statewide attention for the service he has shown to his district and community.
The Minnesota School Boards Association recently named Kirby Ekstrom, vice chairperson of the North Branch Area Public Schools School Board, as an all-state school board member.
NBAPS School Board Chairperson Kim Salo lauded Ekstrom for securing the honor and for his many years of service to the community at the Thursday school board meeting.
“Since he came to the school board in July of 1999, I have seen his dedication to the community, education and to our youth demonstrated too many times to count,” she said.
Salo noted Ekstrom has served on the Minnesota State High School League, North Branch Community Education and the Minnesota School Boards Association.
She added he’s helped organize North Branch events like concerts in the park, the classic film festival and many flags of North Branch.
“Congratulations to you, Kirby,” Salo said to Ekstrom. “Few honors have been so richly deserved, and on behalf of a grateful community and a grateful school board, I would like to thank you for your service these many, many years.”
