NB gymnastics teams start season with blowout

After trampling Columbia Heights 128.75-95.15, the Viking gymnastics team lost by less then three points to Chisago Lakes in its first meets of the season.

On Dec. 4, the team hosted the Hylanders and took the top five places in the bars, floor exercise and all-around.

“Over all, this was a great way to start off the season,” assistant coach Brianna McClaskie said. “We are happy with our performance and are excited to see our continued improvements.”

Last Thursday, the team hosted Chisago Lakes Area and lost 131.725-129.225.

“This was a very disappointing loss for us,” coach McClaskie said. “But we will see them again in the season. Bayley Ertl was out. She injured her left arm. We are not sure when she will be back, but are hoping for a speedy recovery. She is a big part of our varsity lineup. Our team score did go up, just not enough to pull out the win. Alexys Olson (seventh grader) really stepped up and helped out our team score. We missed Bayley. Her absence hurt us as a team.”

The North Branch girl gymnastics team will host St. Anthony Village at Chisago Lakes Middle School at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 20.
