Vikettes deftly dance their way to solid finishes

After a respectable finish at a North Suburban Conference high-kick meet last week, both the North Branch kick and jazz dance teams competed in the Fridley Invitational.

The kick team placed fourth at the North Suburban Conference meet with 11 rank points, behind St. Francis (10 rank points), Spring Lake Park (six rank points) and Benilde St. Margaret’s (three rank points) at Spring Lake Park High School last Thursday.

“We were excited to see our points jump up from the competition the week before,” coach Marie Ray said. “We are meeting our team goal of consistently improving this season.”

Last Saturday, the high-kick team placed sixth, just barely missing a fifth place trophy by half a rank point in the Fridley Invitational.

The Vikettes jazz team finished seventh, with the fourth through seventh places all being within a few points of each other.
“The Vikettes continue to climb in scores each time they compete their kick dance,” Ray said. “We beat quite a few teams in our section, which is always nice to see.”

The North Branch dance teams will compete in the North Suburban Conference Championships at Robbinsdale Cooper beginning at 11 a.m. Jan. 5.
