Marcelyn J. Schaffner, 81, of Chisago City, died Dec. 21, 2012 of heart complications.
Marcelyn was born Jan. 31, 1931 in St. Paul to Hazel and Leslie Nelsen. She graduated from Humbolt High School in 1949. Marcelyn then graduated from the University of Minnesota. On August 8, 1953 she married Clarence L. Schaffner at Holy Trinity Church in St. Paul.
Marcelyn taught junior high home economics at schools in Stillwater, Highland Park and Taylors Falls. She was on the founding board of the Chisago Lakes DAC; she served as assistant director of congregate dining region 7; she was on the LCW executive board as vice president and president; she was a member of the Range Fibers Arts Guild, demonstrating weaving at Iron World and she was a member of the Chapter FL branch of PEO. She served as pastor’s wife and excellent hostess at Cross Lake / Swanberg Lutheran, Immanuel Lutheran, Almelund and Christ Lutheran Church, Eveleth.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Glenn Nelsen. She is survived by devoted husband of 59 years Clarence, daughters Juliann ( Brad) Wilcox, Karin ( Louis) Vukich; sons Bradley (Elaine) Schaffner, Philip Schaffner; six grandchildren—Charlie and Emma Wilcox, Bart, Madisen, and Hunter Vukich and Rebekah Schaffner; sister Nancy (Charles) Quall and many other fine relatives and good friends.
