Mustangs dash Vikings skaters’ hopes of victory
The North Branch boys hockey team was looking to light up a regional foe when it traveled north to Mora Arena last week, but the team was as cold on offense and defense as the ice on which its players skated.
The Mustangs crushed the Vikings 8-2.
Connor Martineau scored the first Viking goal, assisted by Tyler Cashill and Alex Miller.
Ryan Zentner made the second North Branch goal off an assist by Miller.
Goalie Donovan Steffen stopped 28 of the 36 shots at the Viking net.
The North Branch boys hockey team is fourth in the Two Rivers Conference with a 1-2 conference and 2-7 overall record. The team will host Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 3 before traveling to the National Sports Center Schwan Super Rink in Blaine to face the Legacy Christian Academy/Condordia Academy-Roseville/PACT Charter School Lions at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4. The Vikings will then host the Minneapolis Novas at Chisago Lakes Arena 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8.
