Roman F. Panek, of North Branch, died Sunday, Dec. 23, at his home at the age of 88.
Roman was born July 26, 1924 in Cedar, Mich. to Joseph and Cecelia (Fleese) Panek. He attended school through the eighth grade at Cedar. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. Roman married his wife Lillian Feb. 16, 1946 in New Brighton, Minnesota. He owned and operated RF Panek & Son Contracting. He was an active member of the Forest Lake VFW Post #4210. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, watching westerns, his family and the Minnesota Twins.
Roman was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. He is survived by wife Lillian; son Ron (June) of Chisago City; daughters Sharie Panek, of Spring Lake Park, Ramona (Paul Schneider) Baldwin, of Lino Lakes; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and brother Leo Panek of Traverse City, Mich.
Funeral Services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Branch with Rev. Gary Guptill officiating. Deb Aulich and Jon Ekstrom provided music. Interment followed the service at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in North Branch, with military honors provided by Forest Lake VFW Post #4210. Serving as casket bearers were Luke Panek, Ethan Panek, Amy Bursten, Jacob Baldwin, Megan Baldwin and Brady Noreen.
