The Pine City/Rush City boys hockey team, along with Rush City team members Jake Kleinsasser, Conner Werner, Coltin Malchow, Blake Cook and Matt Haglund, competed in the Wadena-Deer Creek Tournament Dec. 27-28.
The team lost 7-1 to St. Paul Como Park, and then won over North Branch 5-4 in overtime.
Kleinsasser scored the only goal (unassisted) in the game versus the Cougars.
In the game against the Vikings, Kleinsasser scored a goal assisted by Haglund, as well as scored a second goal off assists by Malchow and Danny Pitzen. Casey Lucht scored an unassisted goal and another assisted by Colby Pavelka, while TJ Gross scored with assists by Zach Smith and Adam Swanson.
Last Thursday the team hosted and fell 11-0 to No. 9 state ranked Princeton.
The game versus Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson is scheduled to be broadcast on KBEK 95.5.
The Pine City/Rush City boys hockey team is fourth in the Two Rivers Conference with a 1-1 conference and 2-9 overall record. The Dragons will travel to Grantsburg Arena to face WSFLG (Webster/Siren/Frederic/Luck/Grantsburg) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, before hosting Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson at Pine City Arena at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
