NB wrestlers still ‘Mean and Lean’

The Guillotine revised its rankings Jan. 11, and continues to list the Vikings as “Lean and Mean,” while senior wrestler Zack Sundly and junior wrestler Aaron Senne are both state ranked 10th.

The team has only one loss in the North Suburban Conference.

On Jan. 5, the Vikings took accumulated 122.5 points to place fifth out of 16 teams in the Tom Keating Memorial Tournament at Foley. Class A No. 2 state ranked Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City took first with 223.5 points.

Sundly (195-pound weight class) and Senne (132-pound class) both lost for the first time this season at Foley.

North Branch hosted and crushed Irondale 50-19 in a conference meet last Thursday before taking home the second place trophy in the Mounds View Duals Tournament last Saturday.

The Class AA Vikings defeated Tartan 61-6, and Park Center 71-6 before losing 50-18 to Class AAA No. 7 state ranked Owatonna in the championship round.

The North Branch wrestling team will travel to Fridley to face the Tigers in a conference matchup at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 before hosting a triangular at 7 p.m. Jan. 18. The Vikings will then compete in an invitational at Cambridge-Isanti High School beginning at 9 a.m. Jan. 19.
