RC wrestlers turn in solid performance

Rush City sophomore Jacob Lynch is now state ranked 10th in the 220-pound weight class by The Guillotine, a website that ranks amateur wrestlers in Minnesota, while the team is continues to show improvement.

The team totaled 83.5 points to place eighth in the Mora Tournament Jan. 5, ahead of Albany (61) and Spectrum (54). St. Francis won the tournament with 180.5 points.

Isaiah Johnson (182-pound weight class) was champion runner-up, Lynch placed third, James Kelling (132) fourth, Luke Rands (179) and Tyler Sitz (120) both placed fifth, while Brandon Arispe (126), Chase Grant (195) and Nick Kost (285) all finished sixth.

The Rush City/Braham wrestling team defeated Ogilvie 54-24 last Thursday in a conference matchup, before taking sixth place out of 10 teams in the Pine City Invitational.

Last Saturday at Pine City, the team racked up a score of 104 to place ahead of Big Lake (101), Benilde-St. Margaret’s (60), Virginia Area (46) and Ogilvie (39). St. Peter took champion with 223 points.

Lynch was champion, Johnson champion runner-up, Grant took third, while Zack Johnson (152), Zack Dean (285) and Sitz all placed fourth.

Grayson Devlin (132), Dominic Montgomery (170) and Kelling all ended in sixth place.

The Rush City/Braham wrestling team will host Cloquet at Braham High School at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 17 before competing in a triangular at Mora at 8 p.m. Jan. 24.
