Scholarships available for students pursuing health care careers

The Fairview Lakes Auxiliary invites high school seniors and returning adult students, who live in the Fairview Lakes Medical Center service area and are pursuing a career in health care, to apply for one of 16 scholarships totaling $16,000.

Applications must be submitted on or before April 1.

Scholarships will be awarded in June. High school seniors who receive scholarships will also be recognized at their respective high school awards ceremonies.

These scholarship grants are available to qualified candidates planning a career in a medical field. (A complete list of the available scholarships may be viewed online.) Applicants must be high school graduates (or anticipated to graduate in spring 2013) attending or planning to attend an accredited school and must live in the area bounded by Pine City on the north, Lino Lakes/Hugo on the south, Hwy. 65 on the west and the Wisconsin border on the east.

Fairview Lakes’ employees and their children are eligible to apply regardless of residence.

Judging will be based on scholastic achievement, a 250-word essay describing the applicant’s motivation and career goals, experience and/or exposure to health care and financial need. Applicants must provide two letters of reference and be able to demonstrate good character, dependability and academic achievement.

Students must maintain 12 credits per quarter to be eligible for these scholarships. (Adults returning to school, changing a career, or advancing their education will be considered for the Cindy Lynch Memorial Scholarship if taking only six credits per quarter.)

Submissions must include the three-page completed application, a 250-word essay describing the applicant’s motivation and career goals, and two letters of reference. Incomplete applications will be rejected. For more information, contact Carla Norelius at 651-257-8806 or cnoreli1@fairview.org.
