Within a three-day period last week, the North Branch wresting team hosted a meet versus Fridley, hosted a quad dual tournament and competed in the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational.
The Vikings slaughtered the Tigers 65-7 last Thursday and then defeated Nashwauk-Keewatin/Greenway 60-10 and Grand Rapids 35-27 last Friday in the duals.
Ranked No. 10 in the state, 195 weight class wrestler Zack Sundly lost his match against Grand Rapids wrestler Jamison Evans, ranked second in the state at 182 pounds, who wrestled up to 195 pounds to take on Sundly.
On Saturday in the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational, the No. 19 Class AA state-ranked North Branch team (with two ranked wrestlers) fell to No. 11 Class AA state-ranked Perham (three ranked wrestlers) 43-12.
The Vikings also lost to Forest Lake (three ranked wrestlers) 45-21 and No. 5 Class AAA state-ranked Cambridge-Isanti (four ranked wrestlers) 48-21.
The team got back on track when it defeated No. 10 Class AA state-ranked Monticello (four ranked wrestlers) 36-26.
Junior 285 weight class wrestler Seamus Hunter had four wins on the day and went 7-0 for the week by pinning all his opponents.
Sundly had four wins on the day, including a win over his No. 8 state-ranked Cambridge-Isanti adversary.
Sundly and junior 132 weight class wrestler Aaron Senne are both ranked 10th in the state.
The North Branch team has only one loss (St. Francis) in the North Suburban Conference.

The North Branch wrestling team will take on conference rival and host Benilde-St. Margaret’s at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, before traveling to Grand Rapids to compete in the 55th Annual Skip Nalan Tournament beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26.
