Girls hockey beats pair of metro teams

The St. Francis/North Branch girls hockey team, with North Branch skaters Mallory Olson, Erynn Downey, Kaylyn Forliti and Miranda Swanson, shut out visiting Bloomington Kennedy 2-0 on Jan. 14 before settling for a 2-2 tie in overtime against host Princeton on Jan. 15.

Back on home ice, the girls then defeated the St. Louis Park Orioles 5-1 last Thursday but lost 3-1 to Chisago Lakes Area on Saturday.

The Fighting Saints are seventh in the North Suburban Conference with a 1-7 conference record and 6-14-1 overall. The team will host the No. 2 state-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights (17-2) at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, before traveling to Northeast Ice Arena in Minneapolis to face the No. 20 ranked Totino-Grace Eagles (9-8-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.
