Viking skaters break losing streak

After losing 10 games in a row the North Branch boys hockey team finally brought home a victory.

The Vikings defeated Moose Lake Area 4-1 last Saturday with goalie Cedric Gelden stopping all but one of the 20 shots on goal.

Caleb Larson scored on an assist from Brandon Kratzke, while Ryan Zentner got one in the net assisted by Larson.

Also scoring the biscuit were Brandon Kratzke, assisted by Mitch Patten and Al Guizzetti, and Patten with Brandon Timm assisting.

The day before, the team fell 7-2 to visiting WSFLG (Webster/Siren/Frederic/Luck/Grantsburg). Gelden started in his first varsity game and had some great saves, stopping 21 of the 28 shots on the North Branch goal.

Scoring were Kratzke, assisted by Timm and Tim Courtright, and Larson on an assist by Kratzke.

The North Branch boys hockey team is fifth in the Two Rivers Conference with a 1-3 conference and 2-13 overall record. The Vikings will travel to Mora Arena to face Mora/Hinckley-Finlayson (6-8) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, before hosting Legacy Christian Academy (13-2) at Chisago Lakes Arena at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.
