North Branch Area Public Schools recently announced free all-day everyday kindergarten is coming in 2013-14.
At the Jan. 24 work session, school board members provided consensus to move to the all-day model, and is expected to make that decision official at its Feb. 14 meeting.
All-day kindergarten would be free for all students, and would be implemented regardless of whether the school district stays with a four-day week or moves to a five-day week. If the school district stays with a four-day week, a half-day everyday option will be offered along with all-day everyday kindergarten for families concerned about the length of the day.
“We are so excited about the level of school board support for this change,” superintendent Deb Henton said. “Our financial management over the last five years has made this investment possible at a time when other districts are struggling to maintain the status quo. It feels great to be back on the cutting edge of education and to be providing yet another program that will lead to increased student achievement and is good for kids.”
Families can expect registration information to be available Feb. 29.
