Task force unveils results in fight on local drugs, violence
A multi-agency effort aimed at high level narcotics enforcement and other violent criminal activities appears to be making a difference locally since it formed a year ago.
Chisago, Isanti and Pine counties joined efforts in narcotics enforcement and created the East Central Drug and Violent Offenders Task Force. Throughout 2012, task force agents were involved in over 250 investigations and executed 37 search warrants, which led to the arrest of 116 individuals.
During these investigations, agents recovered around 2 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of more than $90,000. Agents also seized over 225 pounds of processed marijuana, a street value of $675,000, and over 1,200 locally grown marijuana plants. Other seizures included 24 pounds of Khat, 2 and a half ounces of cocaine and more than 560 illegally possessed prescription pills.
In addition, the task force seized for forfeiture: 24 guns, five vehicles, two properties and over $81,800. The effort also was used in multiple undercover operations including a murder-for-hire.
Sheriff Rick Duncan of Chisago County, Sheriff Russ Monson of Isanti County and Sheriff Robin Cole of Pine County sit as board members on the East Central Drug and Violent Offenders Task Force and oversee the efforts of the assigned agents.
