RC/B wrestlers solve Raiders; JV impressive

Rush City/Braham wrestlers won 42-37 in a road match against Mille Lacs (Isle/Onamia) last Thursday.

“Our JV wrestled lights out putting everything they had on the mat,” said coach Josh Moulton. “They were led by seventh grader Dylan Martin who has improved greatly from the start of the season. He had two pins.” Karter Niessen, Hunter Schmidt, Tucker Liegland, Bryce Bodell, Sonny Foote, Luke Rands and Zack Dean put on a very impressive show winning 53-18.”

Added Moulton:

“Then the stage was set for the varsity. We were seeking our first win in over 10 years against the Raiders.

“Dylan Mielke, Casey Desota, Grayson Devlin, Chase Grant, Jacob Lynch and Nick Kost all earned pins over their opponent. We also had some losses where we did not give up bonus points, which were huge. None bigger than Blaine Blazek. He has greatly improved over the year.

“These guys are ready to wrestle, and we are peaking at the right time. I believe the hard work at the end will pay off come section time. This team has a great future ahead of them, as they only lose two of the kids that wrestled Thursday night next year due to graduation.

“We wrestle Friday night at Pine City for the GRC tournament. We have high hopes this year. Come cheer us on.”

Rush City sophomore Jacob Lynch is ranked 10th in the state in the Class AA 220 weight class by The Guillotine website.

The Rush City/Braham wrestling team is third in the Great River Conference with a 4-2 record. Next, the team will travel to Pine City to compete in the Great River Conference Championship beginning at 4:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8. Then it’s time for the Section 7AA Team Championship preliminaries and quarterfinals, which start at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at North Branch.
